Abigail Garner - Flute

From the first time she heard the sound of the flute while attending a middle school pep rally as a fifth grader, Abigail Garner fell in love with the instrument within seconds and has not looked back since. Currently a Master’s student at the Southern Methodist University Meadows School of the Arts, Abigail is engaged in a diverse range of performing ensembles, including the Meadows Symphony Orchestra, Meadows Wind Ensemble, chamber music groups, and as Second Flutist of the Waco Symphony Orchestra in the 2022-2023 season while completing her undergraduate studies at the Baylor University School of Music. In addition, Garner can be heard on Divine Mischief, a 2024 album release recorded by the Baylor Wind Ensemble, clarinetist Julian Bliss, and produced by Signum Records. In the spring of 2024, she was named a winner of the Semper Pro Musica competition at Baylor University and performed Lowell Liebermann’s Sonata for Flute and Piano, Op. 23 at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. Throughout her career, she has performed in masterclasses for Lisa Garner Santa, Shauna Thompson, Erin Murphy, Kim Scott, Marianne Gedigian, Alberto Almarza, Soo-Kyung Park, and Lorna McGhee. Abigail began her studies at Cedar Park, Texas with Ann Kjerulf Knien, graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Flute Performance from Baylor University after studying with Dr. Charlotte Daniel, and is a current student of Professors Kara Kirkendoll Welch and James Romeo. Outside of performing and helping as a flute teacher with the SMU Young Artist Flute Ensembles, she likes to bake, draw, watch Disney movies, and spend time with her friends and loved ones.
